Concealed cabinet hinges

Choose how the door sits on the cabinet before selecting the hinge and its matching fittings.

When it earns a place in your kit

For cabinet doors where the hinge is hidden when closed. A face-frame cabinet has a front frame around the opening; a frameless cabinet attaches hardware to the case sides. Select a hinge intended for that construction.

What to check before choosing

  • Decide overlay (the door covers the cabinet edge) or inset (the door sits inside the opening). Record door thickness, size and weight.
  • Check the exact hinge and any required mounting plate together. Cup diameter, drilling depth, edge distance, opening clearance and hinge count come from that system.
  • Check clearance to adjacent doors, walls and internal drawers. Soft-close is a closing feature, not a fit specification.

A practical setup sequence

  1. Draw the closed door position and the gaps around it. Obtain the installation sheet for the selected hinge and fittings before finalizing door dimensions.

  2. Mark the inside face and hinge edge on matching scrap. Use the specified drilling setup and depth stop; verify the remaining face thickness and screw paths.

  3. Fit the test hinge and mounting hardware to a representative case-and-door sample. Check closing position and opening clearance.

  4. Support the real door during fitting. Adjust within the documented range and recheck gaps, clearance and fastener seating.

A common mistake to avoid

Choosing a hinge by appearance or a familiar cup diameter can leave the wrong overlay or a cup hole too deep for the door.
